Father: Daichi Akiyama Has the appearance of a man in his early fifties. Bald on top with his gray hair remaining on the side. He is a stern father. But, in the company of friends and family he is very funny. He tries his best to do what is for the clan.

Mother Hoshi Akiyama. A woman appearing in her late forties with long dark red hair kept up in a bun. Former fourth seat of Squad 4 and a good friend of Captain Unohana. They still occasionally get together that the Ikebana Club meetings. Hoshi taught both of her childeren shinigami skills.

Brother: Isamu Akiyama,  Akane’s younger brother. A positive and friendly soul reaper Isamu has always looked up to Akane. They had a good relationship growing up, and were constantly sparring or playing together.

Appearance:
She is a well endowed slender woman. Akane has hazel eyes and dark red hair which is how she got her name, Akane meaning deep red. She has changed her appearance over the years. 100 years ago while she was the lieutenant of Squad 11, Akane let straight hair hang down where it ended at her mid back. She wore a slightly altered shihakushō with short sleeves and having the bottom stop right at her knees. Akane wore her zanpakutō behind her right side and her lieutenant’s badge around her left wrist.. After leaving the Soul Society, Akane has straight bangs with two chin length strands framing her face. She keeps the rest of her neck length hair pulled up in the back. Akane wears red sneakers, lightly tattered jeans and a purple halter top.

Personality:

Akane is a very easy going person. Not much really seems to get on her nerves which is why she can stay clam in battle conditions. Akane is very outgoing and is usually up for anything if it sounds like fun. She has a strong desire to be outside as much as possible. The closer she is to nature the happier Akane is. She tends to be very competitive especially her little brother Isamu. Akane would always spar with her brother and turn anything into a competition. Although Akane can be a bit of a sore loser, but the most she will do is pout for a while before coming back for a rematch. After what she thought was an act of betrayal by her mother, Akane keeps her guard up around new people. She also does not like to be in large crowds of people as it tends to make her feel claustrophobic. Once you are part of  her inner circle Akane is a cheerful fun loving lady. Those that are close to her have also noticed her flirtatious nature.

History:

Akane was the first born child of Hoshi and Daichi. As such she was the next in line to be the head of the clan. Her wish was to be a strong leader and soul reaper like her mother. This wish did not go unnoticed by Hoshi and she begain training Akane at a very young age. Most of her early training consisted of learning the clan’s traditions, work, and harnessing spiritual energy. It was very hard keeping Akane’s attention on nearly all of these lessons unless they were held outside. Soon another member was added to the Akiyama clan, Akane’s younger brother Isamu.

Akane was very happy to be a big sister. She loved watching and playing with her little brother. They got along very well and were very close. Eventually Isamu was old enough to join Akane in their family’s lessons. Akane enjoyed having Isamu there for what she considered dull times with her parents. They frequently turned the lessons into mini competitions. Soon the pair were ready for Zanjutsu training. This was the first of her lessons that Akane looked forward to and excelled at. After learning the basic techniques the siblings began sparring with each other daily. However Akane had a clear advantage over her little brother in both power and skill.  

Some time later there was a new addition to the Akiyama staff. Hoshi arrived from a trip to the east Rukongai with a girl around Akane’s age. The young girl had long black hair, big dark red eyes, and she clutched a zanpakutō. Hoshi introduced the girl as Kiku Himura and she would be Akane’s training partner because Isamu was proving not to be much of a challenge. Also Kiku would also train to be Akane’s future assistant and bodyguard. Akane did not really like the idea of having this quiet girl as a guard. But, Akane was just happy to have a new person around to have fun and spar with.
The years went by and Akane was able to enter the Shino Academy. During school Akane accelled in zanjutsu class as she did in her home training sessions. However, she did rather poorly in her kidō class as it could not keep her attention. Akane’s set of skills landed her in Squad 11 upon graduation. This did upset Kiku as her natural abilities gained her a spot in the stealth force of Squad 2. Akane reassured her that they would still be able to work together on occasion and would still be together at home.
Akane quickly grew to love being in Squad 11. She loved how it was so easy to find someone to spar with. And, because her squad was mostly called for battle Akane was able to come and go as she pleased. After some time she rose through the ranks and eventually reached the title of lieutenant. For her skill in battle and being one of the only female members of the battle crazed squad, Akane came to be known as the Barbarian Princess. As the lieutenant, Akane was frequently having to fill in for her Captain due to his lazy nature.  

As time went on, a series of incidents began to occur in the Soul Society. Many souls and soul reapers were disappearing without a trace. Several missions took place, but no evidence could be found to determine what was happening. Akane was ordered to patrol part of the Rukongai and search for anything out of the ordinary. She took the mission very seriously, but was also very happy to be able to roam the open areas of the Rukongai. Akane searched well into the night with nothing abnormal to see. Just as she was about to head back to the barracks, Akane noticed  the sound of people screaming in pain. She dashed to the area of the disturbance only to see a group of soul reapers vanish in an eruption of white. Akane knew she had to report what she saw immediately. But, half way back to the Seireitei Akane began to feel ill. An intense pain over took her body and Akane passed out.

She awoke and decided to head home for a little rest before reporting in to the captains. Despite her recent illness, Akane was making it back home faster than usual. She made it home and saw her mother was still awake at the late hour sitting outside by the family’s pound. Since Hoshi was a member of Squad 4, Akane thought it would be a good idea to go to her for a healing session and see if she had any  information on the vanishing soul reapers. As she went to greet her mother, Hoshi had an expression of intensity Akane had never seen before. Before Akane could say a word, her mother drew her zanpakutō and  lunged at her daughter. After a furious clash of swords Akane managed to escape and fled for the woods. She made it to a clearing in the forest that she and Kiku would go to relax. As she went to the lake to clean her wounds, Akane saw in her reflection that she was wearing the mask of a hollow. Since part of it was chipped off from her fight with Hoshi, Akane could still see her own face under the mask. Kiku soon arrived under orders from Hoshi to slay the hollow that invaded the Akiyama estate. She was shocked to find that the hollow was her mistress Akane. Kiku knew there was only one person they could turn to for help, her Captain Yoruichi Shihōin. They found the leader of the stealth force in the Squad 12 barracks with Captain Kisuke Urahara and a group of soul reapers with a condition similar to Akane’s. Soon they would all leave the Soul Society and they would make their new home in Karakura Town.

Akane was shaken up after the entire incident. Being attacked by her role model caused Akane to put her guard up around new people. The only one she trusted now was the one by her side all along, Kiku. In Akane’s mind, she could never go back and face her family as the monster she was now. She did eventually open up to the other Visoreds and they did have some good times together. Akane spent her time training to one day face the one who twisted their fates, Sōsuke Aizen.

Around a hundred years had past and Akane was happy with her new friends. However the other Visoreds were thinking of adding a new member to their ranks, the substitute soul reaper Ichigo Kurosaki. It was revealed that he had hollow powers just like the rest of them, but no control over it. Akane was hesitant to let someone else into her life, but she knew that he could be a valuable ally to have. When he arrived, Akane could tell Ichigo was strong, but scared of the power within him. At first, all of Akane’s interactions with Ichigo were breif. But, after seeing his interactions with the others and seeing him conquer his inner hollow Akane slowly opened up to him. She was happy to have someone new to spar with. Akane and Lisa often had a good time embarrassing Ichigo, which was pretty easy. Soon the Aizen’s Espadas arrived and ending up taking Ichigo’s friend Orihime Inoue. After a quick recovery, Ichigo left for Hueco Mundo to save his friend. Akane didn’t have time to miss her new friend because she and the others had to prepare.

The time had arrived to try to take down Aizen. Akane and the other Visoreds found there was a barrier set in place around a fake Karakura Town. They spread out to find someone to let them in. As she was seaching, Akane saw one of the soul reapers guarding the barrier was her little brother Isamu. She could tell that her brother had grown into a strong soul reaper. However he had picked up on her presence and gave chase. She was not ready to face her brother, so Akane had Kiku use her abilities to hide their spiritual pressures and escape. When they returned, most all of the soul reapers and Visoreds had been injured. And, Aizen had been defeated in the Soul Society by Ichigo.

Some time passed and Akane was out for one of her walks outside Karakura Town. All of a sudden she was faced with a pair of soul reapers, Isamu and Rangiku Matsumoto. Isamu had come to find Akane and bring her back home. She could tell by the blue sash around his was that Isamu had become the head of the Akiyama clan. Akane couldn’t understand why they would want her back and figured their parents never told Isamu about what she had become. She informed her brother that she left on her own and had no reason to come back. Isamu was desperate to get his sister back. So the siblings chose the only way they ever settled arguments, with a match. This would be different before, no holding back and with real swords. Their fight went on for some time. Akane could tell that his skills had improved greatly, but her’s had as well. She chose to end it with her trump card, her bankai. Defeated and unconscious, Isamu was taken away by Rangiku. Akane left to go back to Kiku and the others. She knew her brother would return one day, so she would have to keep up with her training. After all, Akane always loved sparring with her little brother.  
 
Zanpakutō
Ginkiba (Silver Fang) An earth elemental Zanpakutō  A katanna with a yellow wrapped hilt and a rectangular guard decorated by a cresent moon on each end pointing inward.

ZanpakutōSpirit:
Ginkiba is a wolf. She has a black, grey, and white coat with icy blue eyes. Ginkiba is smart, patient, but slightly arrogant. She has very good battle tactics. Frequently pointing out the enemy’s  weak points to Akane. She is proud of her partner, but at the same time Ginkiba knows Akane could accomplish so much more with a sticter attitude.

Inner Zanpakutō World:
Akane’s inner zanpakut&#333 world is a clearing in the middle of an alpine forest. Tall grasses are feed by a gentle stream running through the middle of the clearing while softly moving in the light breeze. There is a large flat boulder in the middle of the grass where Ginkiba is often found If Akane is saddened or doubtful, the land and trees are covered in snow with a chilly wind blowing across the field. If Akane is angred, the grass turns brown and wilts under extreme heat from a glaring sun.

Shikai: The incantation is “Seek them out, Ginkiba” (Sorera o mosaku, Ginkiba) Akane’s zanpakutō takes the form of a war hammer. A wooden 5ft pole, the hammer is in the form of a fang with a blade going from the middle to the tip. A leather strap wraps around the hammer forming a “X” pattern on both sides with the ends draping at the tip of the pole.

Shikai Attacks:

Ishi no ago (Stone jaws) Akane slams her hammer down on the ground, causing fang shaped pillars to come forth from the ground in two rows toward the enemy.

Pakku Kuri (Pack Hunting) Akane snaps the pillars from Ishi no ago and uses her hammer to fling them at her enemy. Often used on enemies that have taken to the air. Also very effective on multiple opponents.  

Hagane Kōshō (Steel Bite) Akane uses the bladed point of her hammer to impale the enemy. Her finishing move.

Bankai: Ginkiba Mori no Joō (Silver Fang Queen of the Forest)
Akane twirls Ginkiba above her head as air envelopes her as Ginkiba transforms into a much larger hammer. As the cyclone dissapates, Akane is now wearing black elbow length gloves and a sleeveless gray full length coat with black fur around the neck. The metal pole is now doubled in length with a gold ring at the end decorated with three strips of red leather. The hammer is now much larger and rectangular. Ginkiba Mori no Joō’s special ability is to take earth to change the basic shape of the hammer and also launch stones, as sharp as steel, for attacks.

Bankai Attacks

Axe Hammer form
Akane changes her weapon to the form of an axe hammer. The axe hammer form is used for slashing attacks as well as the hammer side for crushing.

Ōkami no Tsume (Wolf Claw) When she wants, Akane is able to fling the cresent shaped blade toward her foe.

Spike Hammer form
Akane’s hammer  has a number of sharpened spikes all around. This form is used for a series of bashing attacks.

Pakku Kyō (Pack Frenzy) She launches any number of spikes towards the enemy.

Hollowfication:
Akane is able to dawn her hollow mask for a power boost. She puts on her mask by wiping her right hand across her eyes. Akane’s hollow mask has one long open slot across her eyes, two long fangs with six diamond shaped teeth between them at the bottom, and it has blue curve marks around the edges and the eye slot. When she wears her mask, Akane has yellow eyes and black sclera. Her mask gives Akane enhanced strength, speed, endurance, and durability. She is able to fire a golden-yellow cero that gathers between the fangs of her mask.

Inner Hollow

Akane’s inner hollow looks a lot like her. She still wears a shihakushō but it is white with a black sash. Her hair is a platinum grey and is kept down at her shoulders. The inner hollow also has yellow eyes and black sclera. She sees herself as an improved version of Akane with much more drive and a thirst for battle. She pushes Akane to go wild and strike down anything in the way.

Was the first member of the Akiyama clan to ever achieve Bankai. Her brother Isamu was the second.

When sent on missions to the world of the living, Akane’s spiritual limiter was on her right forearm.
