Relatives:

Father Daichi Akiyama has the appearance of a man in his early fifties. Bald on top with his gray hair remaining on the side. He is a stern father. But, in the company of friends and family he is very funny. He tries his best to do what is for the clan.

Mother Hoshi Akiyama. A woman appearing in her late forties with long dark red hair kept up in a bun. Former fourth seat of squad 4 and a good friend of Captain Unohana. They still occasionally get together that the Ikebana Club meetings. Hoshi taught both of her childeren shinigami skills.

Sister Akane Akiyama. A well endowed woman in her mid twenties. Akane has the same dark red hair as her mother, but has the hazel eyes of her father. She is Isamu’s older sister.

Appearance: An average build and slightly shorter in height. He has light blue eyes just like his mother. Green hair that comes down just past his shoulders; however Isamu keeps some of it pulled back in a high ponytail making his hair drape in the middle of his neck. Wears a basic soul reaper shihakusho with short sleeves and a blue sash around his waist.


Personality:

Isamu is a happy and friendly soul reaper. He is always trying to establish friendships with everyone he meets. He loves to have fun and will start competitions from just about any daily occurrence (i.e. cleaning the barracks, sword training, and even slaying hollows on ocassion) Despite his kind demeanor, when it comes to protecting his comrades Isamu is all business.



History:

Isamu was born into the Akiyama clan. A clan of lesser nobility, the Akiyama clan has held the duty of making and repairing haori of the Gotei 13 captians. Isamu was the second child of Daichi and Hoshi with an older sister Akane. Both of the siblings got along very well and even went under training together under their parents. Hoshi taught them basic soul reaper lessons and Daichi taught them sewing skills by having them repair shihakushos. As the first born Akane was next to lead the clan, but one day she disappeared from the Soul Society leaving  Isamu as the next head of the clan. Saddened by his sister going missing, Isamu vowed to become as strong as possible to find and bring Akane back home.

After finishing training under his parents, Isamu entered the Shino Academy. There he had a run in with a student with white hair by the name of Tōshirō. Despite Isamu’s friendly attitude, Tōshirō walked of without saying a word. They didn’t get along very well at first due to the difference in personalities. The two would have more meetings because they had many classes together. A rivalry  quickly sprouted between them. Competing in kido classes and going head to head in zanjutsu training Tōshirō grew to respect Isamu’s skill. And Isamu soon saw them less as rivals and more like brothers competing with each other. They got along pretty well outside of class. Isamu was always trying to get Tōshirō to have more fun. By the end of their time at the academy, Isamu and Tōshirō were good friends.

Upon entry into the Gotei 13, Isamu was assigned to squad four by the request of his mother. He did well for a while learning healing skills under Captain Unohana. But Isamu’s skills were better suited for combat and he soon transferred out of the squad.  Eventually he found his true place in squad 10. Fighting along side his friend Tōshirō and gaining a new friend in Rangiku Matsumoto. They quickly bonded over their similar personalities and enjoyment of sake. When the time came to pick a new squad captain, both Isamu and Tōshirō decided to give it their all and master their bankai. However Tōshirō was faster, mastering his bankai and becoming the squad 10 captain. Isamu was elevated to third seat with a renewed desire to become stronger.

During the Ryoka Invasion Isamu spent most of his time helping transfer the wounded to the squad four barracks. In the end, it was revealed that captains Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tosen were in charge of the incident from behind the scenes. The aftermath was especially hard on Rangiku. So Isamu spent most of his covering her duties and doing anything he could to cheer her up.

Soon after the departure of the three traitorous captains, there was appearance of a complete arrancar in Karakura Town. It was clear that an overall increase of strength was needed. As Isamu was training he was informed that Tōshirō and Rangiku were heading for Karakura Town as part of a special task force. And it was up to Isamu to lead and help train the squad during Tōshirō’s absence.

After a couple encounters with Aizen’s arrancars and Espadas, Tōshirō and the rest of the advance team returned to the soul society. Aizen and his forces had increased in power quicker than originally thought. The new plan was to replace Karakura Town with a replica and fight Aizen and his Espada in the world of the living. While the captains and lieutenants battled in the fake Karakura Town, Isamu was among those to be on the outside and guard the barrier from any intruders. Part way through the battle, Isamu detected a familar spiritual pressure. Although it was slightly altered he was sure it was Akane’s. Isamu gave chase all the while knowing he would be punished for leaving his post. He came close to encountering the source of the spiritual pressure several times but each time they managed to change course. Eventually the spiritual pressure vanished and Isamu was forced to return to his post. When he arrived, Isamu found that not only was Aizen gone but all of the Gotei 13 forces had fallen. He quickly entered the barrier upon request of Captain Unohana to help her find and heal the injured soul reapers and visoreds. Before they were done healing the others, they got word that Ichigo Kurosaki was able to defeat Aizen at the cost of his soul reaper powers.

After the defeat of Aizen and his forces a steady clam spread over the Seireitei. Isamu took this opportunity to set out on a mission to try and find his older sister Akane. Rangiku joined Isamu on his trip to the world of the living to help assist him in his search and the possiblity to help her self to a shopping spree on his dime. Soon they were able to detect the same spiritual pressure that Isamu chased near the fake Karakura Town. The spiritual pressure lead Isamu to his target, Akane Akiyama. Isamu was overjoyed to see his long lost older sister again and was ready to take her home. But, to his surprise Akane did not want to go back to the Soul Society stating she left of her own free will. Dumbfounded Isamu tried everything he could to convince her to change her mind, but there was nothing that would convince Akane otherwise. The siblings agreed that the only way for either to get what they wanted was by force.

There was a furious clash of swords. All her time away from the Gotei 13 did not diminish Akane’s skills. To Isamu’s observation, her skills in all aspects had greatly improved. Eventually Akane displayed a new skill to tip the battle in her favor, her Bankai. Unable to match his sister’s immense power, Isamu lost the battle and blacked out.

Rangiku was able to carry Isamu to Urahara Shōten. There Orihime was able to arrive and heal Isamu’s injuries. Upon his complete recovery, the soul reapers returned to the Soul Society. After reporting in to Tōshirō the three all decided to help each other train and find new strength to protect those they care for. And for Isamu, to achieve his Bankai in order to bring his sister home.



Zanpakutō:

Kumohime meaning Cloud Princess. An elemental type zanpakutō of lightning. A basic katana, a round guard with four tomoe, and a dark blue hilt. Isamu keeps his Zanpakutō tied to his sash.  


Zanpakutō Spirit:

Kumohime has the apperance of a tall slender woman in her early thirties. Her long light blue hair reaches the middle of her back and is highlighted by a white streak by the right side of her face. She wears a white kimono with silver edges and a yellow obi around her waist. Kumohime is a very wise spirit, but she has a reserved and quiet personality unlike Isamu. She does have a good relationship with him. She loves his kind heart.

Inner Zanpakutō World:

The center of the inner world is a grassy high plateau with a wide open blue sky dotted with a few white clouds. The surrounding area are dark red rocky landscapes and canyons. The weather changes to reflect Isaum’s mood. If he is angered, the sky turns gray with lighting strikesin the distance. If he is sad, the sky is covered in black clouds that pour down a cold rain.

Shikai:

The incantation is “Light the darkened skies, Kumohime ”(Kurai sora o terasu, Kumohime ) The zanpakutō then takes the shape of a claymore with a gap from the tip to almost half way down the blade.

Attacks

Furu Jūden (Full Charge) The entire blade is covered in lightning for a series of slashes.

Bōru Inazuma (Ball Lightning) A blue ball of lightning forms and builds in the sword gap. The ball is then thrown towards the enemy resulting in an electrical discharged explosion and the boom of thunder



Bankai: Teikoku Kumohime (Imperial Cloud Princess)

Isamu points his sword toward the sky and a gray cloud flows out from the tip of the blade. It gathers above forming a 50ft (15m) thunder cloud. Isamu is able to split parts off the cloud and control them as well as the main cloud. The main cloud is mainly used for attack but can be used for defense. The smaller clouds are used for attack, defense and can also be used to increase Isamu’s speed.

Attacks:

Inazuma kyōran no mai (Lightning Frenzy Dance) With clouds under his feet for a speed boost, Isamu quickly slashes the enemy while circling around them.

Kumo shirudo (Cloud Shield) A cloud fragment is used and forms a round shield. Although, the larger the shield the slower it takes to come to Isamu.

Amaya (Heavenly Arrow) A lightning strike from one of the fragment clouds. Can be fired from multiple clouds at the same or alternate times.

Ten’nosabaki (Heaven’s Judgement) A lightning strike from the main cloud. Much stronger than the Amaya, but can not be fired as quickly and with a charge up time between uses. Usually reserved for finishing move.

Isamu was the one to take Uryu Ishida to the sewing room in the Seireitei. They got into a friendly sewing race to see who was faster. It ended in a draw and Isamu has been waiting for a rematch ever since.

The purple ribbon he uses to tie back his hair was a gift from Captain Unohana upon graduation from the Shino Academy.

Isamu’s blue sash is worn by the head of the Akiyama clan.

The Akiyama clan has a test before one can be the next head of the clan. It is to tailor a captain’s haori to their exact specifications and receive no complaints. Isamu was the youngest to ever pass the test in the clan’s history. His test was to repair the haori of Captian Soifon.  

Isamu will comfort friends with homemade baked goods. After Gin left with Aizen, Isamu was baking a lot for Rangiku if he wasn’t drinking with her.
